Topic: Don't Despise Your Birthright
Scripture Reading: Genesis 25:29-34
Main Text
Genesis 25:31-34
'But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”
And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”
Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.”
So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.'
The birthright is the inheritance of the eldest son. For Isaac's sons it has both a physical and a spiritual dimension due to God's word concerning Jacob.
It cannot be supposed that Esau was dying of hunger in Isaac's house. The words signify, I am going towards death; he seems to mean, I shall never live to inherit Canaan, or any of those future supposed blessings; and what signifies it who has them when I am dead and gone.
When you are faced with all these temptations do you go the way of Esau who sold his birthright for a pot of stew? Do you throw away the covenant for a few sensual and physical pleasures? Do you bow to the pressures and attractions of the world and go the way of Esau? Do you consider the material and physical to be more important than the spiritual?
Don't take a permanent decision in a temporal situation. Always consider the future over the present.

Sovereign Lord, I pray for grace to endure the present circumstances for Your promised glory in Jesus' name. Amen
The Lord bless and keep you!
