Topic: Self-Sacrifice

Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:29-30, Colossians 3:5-11

Main Text
Matthew 5:29-30

'If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.'

Christ was merely using parts of the body to make an important point. He was showing that Christians should not tolerate sin as an integral part of their lives. If an individual has a sinful habit, he should overcome it, even though the process may be as painful as the loss of an arm or leg. Christ is saying that it is far better to forsake a sinful pleasure than to lose salvation.

The dearest earthly objects and desires are to be sacrificed for the sake of eternity.

Is there some sin to which you are clinging which is keeping you from God and eternal life? If so, give it up. It is better to give up your sin and go to heaven than to keep the sin and spend eternity in hell.

Prayer:
Gracious Father, I give up every sin today for eternal life by Your grace in Jesus' name. Amen

Tell a neighbour about Jesus today. God bless you!
Shalom
