Topic: The Deeper Life
Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:1-4
Main Text
Philippians 2:1-4
'Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.'
To follow Jesus Christ means to 'die to self': our selfish and sinful passions and desires.
'Dying to self' means living for God and His will, which can often be joyful, satisfying and rewarding. Part of our journey towards spiritual maturity is that we continue to live for God and for other people.
Do you look out for the interests of others? When you talk to others, do you talk about yourself or them?
Do you genuinely long for the success of others more than yourself? Do you get as excited about what God is doing in and through others as you do about what He is doing in and through you?
There’s nothing wrong with looking out for your own personal interests; however, if that is all that you look out for, beware. Selah
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help me to live for You and Your will in all things in Jesus' name. Amen
Tell a neighbour about Jesus Christ today. Bless you!
Shalom
