Topic: The Deity of Jesus
Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:9-20, John 14:8-11
Main Text
John 14:8-9
'Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father?'
Paul, the Apostle wrote to the Colossians that 'Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.'
John 1:18 says: “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.” John is saying here that, the God who is invisible became visible through Jesus Christ. So that’s who Jesus is in relation to God. He is the image of the invisible God.
Now in the Bible the word “firstborn” does not necessarily mean the one who was born first. Rather it means the one who has the right of inheritance. In fact the firstborn was used as a title for the Messiah who would rule over and inherit God’s kingdom.
Jesus Christ is the heir of creation. He not only created all things; He also inherits all things.
Everything pertaining to your life is in this inheritance of Christ. Selah
